This message stopped all of us in our tracks.
This was such a crazy story, I had to share it with you. It is one of those moments that stops you in your tracks.
It all started when I received an email from a woman named Pamela who was reading my book, The Amazing Afterlife of Animals. She explained that while she was reading the chapter about a departed Jack Russell Terrier named Jilly, a sudden and clear message came through from the little dog.
Pamela heard the word, help. She immediately sensed Jilly wanted help to talk to her human dad, Ron. If that wasn’t strange enough, Jilly also said something about a white owl, and said it was a bad thing. Jilly told her the message was urgent.
I get a lot of emails, but this one really grabbed me.
What Ron told me was nothing less than amazing.
Ron moved across the country about a year ago with his two small Chihuahua mix dogs, Finn and Scout. Ron said he is always careful about letting them outside in the fenced backyard and supervises them closely, especially at night, to keep them safe from predators. His new yard is surrounded by huge, dense trees and wildlife. He never had an issue until the night before I shared this message from Jilly.
After letting the dogs out before bedtime, Ron suddenly heard the distinct call of an owl.
Hoo hoo! Hoo hoo!
Ron looked outside and saw a big white owl. The owl was so large that it could easily snatch one of his dogs. Ron had not seen any owls until that moment. He realized he had to be extra careful to keep the dogs safe.
I don’t know who was more surprised, me or Ron, but we were both amazed at the timing of this message.
Ron was thrilled to know his beloved dog, Jilly, was still with him. He felt a rush of warmth and comfort, knowing that she was reaching out from beyond the veil to help protect his two new dogs. Ron had scattered Jilly’s remains in his backyard and was guilt-ridden when he had to leave her behind when he moved two thousand miles away. This urgent message brought him so much peace.
These moments are more than a coincidence. They are invitations to open your heart, to trust the gentle whispers of the afterlife, and to let healing begin.
When grief feels overwhelming, it’s easy to overlook the subtle ways our departed loved ones reach out. Yet, signs from the afterlife are everywhere—feathers, dream visits, unexpected animal encounters, or even a song on the radio at just the right time. The white owl, in so many cultures, is a symbol of wisdom, transition, and spiritual connection. When one appears, especially during times of sorrow, it can be a powerful reminder that love never dies.
Slow Down: Signs often appear in moments of stillness. Give yourself permission to pause and notice what’s around you.
Ask for a Sign: Speak to your departed companion—aloud or in your heart—and invite them to send a message. Be specific if you wish.
Trust What You Receive: Doubt is natural, but remember, your bond is unique. What feels meaningful to you is meaningful.
Keep a Journal: Document each sign, dream, or feeling. Over time, you’ll see a tapestry of connection unfold.
It’s not always a white owl. Sometimes it’s a butterfly landing nearby, a sudden scent, or a memory that floods your heart. No matter the form, these messages are love reaching across the veil—reminding you that you are never alone on your healing journey.

I had a similar experience with a robin that showed up at my window. I felt it was warning me about something but I couldn’t quite figure it out. Later that day, my cat didn’t come home. The robin was at my window again, so I went out to take a closer look. My cat’s collar got stuck around a shrub and was almost choking her. I rushed her to the vet and she was okay, thankfully. I’m so glad that robin let me know she was in trouble. Thank you for sharing this Karen.
I am so glad you were able to get there in time. How frightening. That robin gave you a life saving message.
What an amazing story! I’ve read your books and I know the story about Jilly. How beautiful for Ron to know she is watching out for him.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kindness.
I look forward to your emails and posts so much. My mind has opened to be more attentive to afterlife signs and after years of not receiving any, I have now realized they were all around me. Karen, you are a gift in my life and I cannot thank you enough.
It is such a joy to share…I’m honored to be a part of your journey
I’m reading your book right now! Guess what chapter I’m on….Jilly’s chapter! This is divine timing. Love this story. Your books have helped me through a terrible loss of my angel, Jaxson. I am forever grateful I found you
Wow! How’s that for divine timing! I’m so sorry for your loss. May each chapter of all of my books bring peace, comfort, and healing
Interesting that your email came today. Tomorrow will be 2 years since we lost our sweet Cooper. He got sick suddenly, spent a few days in emergency care, came home for a day or two and then passed. He was only 6, and so full of life, and we were so heartbroken.
I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t think we are ever prepared to say goodbye to someone we love so much. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My little Dixie came to me at night and barked over 70 times in about 2 years. A few months ago I heard from her again after 3 years and I heard another bark with her. I was shocked! A little later that day good friends texted to say that their dog passed the night before. Our dog knew him very well, and they were letting me know!
That’s incredible! wow!!! I would be shocked too. It makes you wonder how many messages we miss. Thank you for sharing.
