This month's question comes from Kathleen: macaw blue and gold

"Dear Karen,

In your readings of parrots do you get the sense that parrots living in loving, caring and responsible homes are generally happy? Or do you sense they would rather be flying free outside?  Do they know what they are missing?"

 Kathleen

Dear Kathleen,
Most of the time the parrots I communicate with are happy and enjoying life.  Parrots and other birds seldom complain about not being able to fly free because most of them have never done so.

One of the few times a bird shared his longing to fly was when I communicated with an injured bald eagle named Osceola.  He not only described his longing to fly again but expressed his amusement at how long it took humans to "get into flight." His injured wing had to be removed in order to save his life.

Click here to read how his caregiver took him hang gliding so he could fly again. I thought it was interesting how Osceola noticed 'how many humans it took' to arrange his flight that day.

Although the parrots I have communicated with rarely share a desire for freedom they do share other kinds of issues such as 'space' or territorial issues. But the main issue most parrots have is boredom. They need more to do and more time with you!

Warmly,
Karen Anderson

 Last Month's Free Book Winner

Last month we asked the question, "What have you learned from the loss of your animal. Would you go through all that grief again? "

Over 350 entries made it almost impossible to choose just one winner.  But Kit Jagoda's story seemed to resonate with the real meaning and purpose of being with and grieving for the animals we know and love.

Read the winning entry here and how a dog named River inspired Kit to create her own animal rescue, River's Wish Animal Sanctuary.

We graciously thank all of you who took the time to enter.  Your stories were amazing and truly heart warming.

Rabbit with birthday hat on
Jazzmine's Crown

"Tell my mom I like my crown!"

When Jazzmine the rabbit passed away, her mom Suzie scheduled a session with me.  During the session Jazzy told me she really liked her 'Crown'.  Suzie laughed out loud as she remembered the birthday hat (crown) Jazzy once wore.

It was one of Suzie's favorite photos and she promised she would send it to me once she found it.  Where here it is! The photo of Jazzy with her crown on!  Jazzy, your mom, Suzie loves you and misses you.
